The Chicago Teachers Union or CTU is demanding smaller class sizes, fair pay and benefits, a nurse and social work at every school. Mayor Lightfoot said, “We will remain at the table, and we hope CTU will as well. I hope this work stoppage will end soon,”
On top of the 25,000 teachers, about 7,000 administrative, including security personnel, bus aides, and custodians, would join teachers on the picket lines.
According to its website, Chicago public schools is the third-largest school district in the United States by enrollment. It has 392,558 students and 619 schools.
